Participation of Our University Academic Staff in International Congresses
Our university academic staff Dr. Lecturer Kenan Özmen and Lecturer Mehmet Latif Candemir participated in the international congress titled “International Conference on Political Economy of Poverty, Equity and Growth (ICPEPEG-25)” held in Helsinki, Finland on May 13–14, 2025.
Our academic staff, who made presentations at the congress with their paper titled “Comparison of Poverty and Unemployment Data between Turkey and OECD Countries”, comparatively addressed the poverty and unemployment indicators between Turkey and OECD countries. Within the scope of the paper, it was emphasized that Türkiye’s relative poverty rates are above OECD averages; the share of social expenditures in GDP remains low and especially youth unemployment rates are strikingly high. In addition, the study includes important policy recommendations regarding the strengthening of social protection mechanisms and the necessity of social policy reforms.
